Description
Sravu (ശ്രാവ്), or Shark, is a distinctive seafood delicacy enjoyed across coastal Kerala. Known for its boneless, firm, and oily flesh, Sravu has a strong flavor that pairs beautifully with bold spices and traditional masalas. It’s often featured in spicy shark curry, roasted dishes, and dry fry preparations that bring out its rich and meaty texture.
Unlike many other fish, shark has a unique aroma and is often marinated and cooked with plenty of garlic, pepper, and tamarind to balance its robust taste. Some traditional homes also prepare dry fish (unakka sravu) from shark meat, preserving it for later use in stir-fries and chutneys.
Highly nutritious, Sravu is packed with protein and essential fatty acids, making it a powerful addition to the Kerala seafood palette.
Though not as commonly found as other fish, Sravu continues to be a prized catch among those who enjoy bold, flavorful seafood.
